‘Alagang OWWA’ Rolls Out In London

LONDON, United Kingdom—The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) brought its signature “Alagang OWWA” Wellness and Membership Caravan to London on 10 October 2025, drawing an enthusiastic crowd of Filipino migrant workers eager to access services, renew memberships, and celebrate Filipino culture.

The event, held under the leadership of OWWA Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan, was marked by the successful roll-out of the OWWA E-Card, a major initiative designed to enhance the convenience and accessibility of OWWA services for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).

“Pinapadali natin ang pag-renew ng OWWA membership at sa susunod na lingo, fully online na ito,’ said Caunan in the opening remarks. She also promised to make the lives of OFWs easier, particularly related of the bureaucracy in the government.

“Bakit kailangang pahirap? Dapat madali.”

Government Support

The event underscored the Philippine government’s continued support for its overseas workers, led by a symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony graced by First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and Ambassador Teddy Locsin Jr. and DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac and OWWA Administrator Caunan.

“Kung wala kayo, hindi magaganap ito. Sabi ng Pangulo at First Lady, dapat maiparamdam namin ang serbisyo sa inyo," said Cacdag in his interview with TFCN.

Also in attendance were representatives from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Tourism (DOT), Social Security System (SSS), and the Philippine Embassy in London, all providing frontline services to the Filipino community.

A Day of Service and Solidarity

Among the highlights of the day was the Legal Consultation Team, which provided free pro bono services to Filipino attendees seeking guidance on various legal matters. The spirit of bayanihan was palpable as volunteers and government representatives worked hand in hand to assist OFWs.

The OWWA E-Card was presented as a groundbreaking tool for Filipino workers abroad. It serves as:

• A valid government-issued ID for transactions in the Philippines and overseas.

• A means for faster access to OWWA’s welfare programs, training, and reintegration services.

• Proof of active membership with the agency.

• A gateway to exclusive discounts and partner rewards.

A Celebration of Filipino Talent

The caravan was not only about services but also a celebration of Filipino artistry and unity. Performances included cultural dances by Lahing Kayumanggi under the direction of Ronnie Del Barrio, and musical numbers by Neneth Lyons of X Factor UK fame and her daughter Elizabeth Lyons from Britain’s Got Talent.

The festivities culminated in a lively impromptu singing competition hosted by Junart Kim Nieva and MWO Sheila Mae Aguilar, showcasing the hidden musical talents of everyday Filipinos in the UK.

A Successful Community Event

The London leg of the “Alagang OWWA” Caravan was widely praised by the attendees for its organization, inclusivity, and heartfelt service to the overseas Filipino community.

As one participant summed it up: “It was a day of service, culture, and solidarity — a true reflection of Filipino spirit abroad.”

The event was held from 9 am to 5 pm at Novotel, London.
