Alex Eala Defeats Alycia Parks to Advance to Canadian Open Third Round

TORONTO, Canada — Philippine tennis star Alex Eala continued her impressive form on 6 August 2026, defeating American Alycia Parks 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 in the round of 64 at the National Bank Open in Toronto.

Seeded 25th in the WTA 1000 tournament, Eala received a first-round bye before taking to Sobeys Stadium, where she secured her second career victory in Toronto supported by a vocal crowd.

Eala controlled the opening set, breaking Parks twice to take it 6-1. Parks, the World No. 71, responded in the second set, utilizing her powerful serve—recording 10 aces in the match—to take the set 6-4 and force a decider.

The match mirrored their previous encounter at the Australian Open in January 2026, where Parks rallied from a set down to eliminate Eala. However, Eala prevented a repeat outcome in Toronto. After Parks levelled the final set at 2-2, Eala won four consecutive games to seal the victory in two hours and four minutes.

Statistically, Eala converted 5 of her 14 break point opportunities and won 71 per cent of her first-serve points, whilst Parks committed eight double faults.

The win extends Eala's momentum following her maiden WTA Tour singles title at the Mubadala DC Open in Washington earlier this month, which elevated her to a career-high ranking of World No. 20.

Eala will face American Caty McNally in the third round.
