MANILA, Philippines—World No. 49 Alex Eala is set to compete on her home court after a stunning performance at the Australian Open 2026, despite not advancing to the subsequent rounds.
Organisers of the Australian Open were reportedly caught off guard by the massive influx of supporters and fans who turned out for Eala’s opening match against American player Alycia Parks. Several tennis veterans, including Novak Djokovic, remarked that organisers appeared to have underestimated Eala’s draw. Djokovic suggested that the crowd could have been better accommodated had the match between Eala and Parks been scheduled at a larger venue.
At 7:00 PM (PH Standard Time) tonight, 26/01/2026, Eala will begin her campaign in the Philippine Women’s Open, where she is scheduled to face World No. 142 Alina Charaeva of Russia.
