MANILA—Filipina tennis star Alex Eala has made history, securing her first Women's Tennis Association (WTA) singles title with a remarkable comeback win at the Guadalajara 125 Open in Mexico. The 20-year-old, ranked No. 75 in the world, defeated Hungary's Panna Udvardy in a grueling three-set final with a score of 1-6, 7-5, 6-3.

The victory marks a significant milestone for both Eala and the Philippines, as she becomes the first Filipino to win a WTA singles championship. Her triumph in Guadalajara is the latest highlight in a standout year that has seen her break into the WTA's top 100 and win a main draw match at the US Open for the first time in her career.

Eala's title run was a display of resilience, particularly in the final. After being dominated in the first set, she regained her composure and momentum to win the second set and ultimately, the match. The win also provided a significant boost to her ranking, lifting her closer to her career-high. The former US Open girls' singles champion will now look to carry this winning momentum into her next tournament, the SP Open in Brazil.
