"Help Shape California" workshop held in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, California — The Office of Assemblymember Jessica Caloza, in partnership with the California Governor Gavin Newsom's Appointments Secretary Morgan Carvajal, has recently conducted a a Community Leaders State Boards and Commissions Appointments Workshop last September 23, 2026 at Manila Inasal in Los Angeles, California.
During the workshop, Carvajal discussed about the appointments application process and the impactful work appointees get to lead on behalf of the State of California.
"We're here in LA to talk about more ways to become involved in the state's government and in the state's board and commissions and appointments in the Governor's office. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us. We'd love to have you," Carvajal said, in an interview with The Filipino Correspondent Network (TFCN).
Carvajal also encouraged all communities in LA including the Filipino community to become more involved in the government sector.
"It is so important for the Filipino community and all other communities to make representations in the state's board and commissions so that if California's making policies, these policies are reflective of the communities' voice and the communities' experience," Carvajal said.
In California, Carvajal pointed out that the Governor has the authority to appoint administration officials and board and commission members.
It is also important, she said, to be always on the lookout for opportunities. "Subscribe for updates from the Appointments Office where appointment information such as Board and Commission descriptions, Board and Commission vacancies and 2025 Index of positions, could be located.
For her part, Caloza said "We want to make sure that our community has their voice represented. Help Shape California! We want and need your voice in public service."
Caloza said they are grateful to be able to come up with this kind of activity that brings the community together for a common good.
"This week, in partnership with the Office of California Governor Gavin Newsom, we were proud to bring together more than 100 community members in Los Angeles for a State Boards and Commissions Appointments Workshop to learn how they can serve our communities," she said, in her Facebook account.
"As a proud immigrant who has dedicated my career to public service, I know how powerful it is to see people who look like you and share your lived experiences at the tables where decisions are made. Representation doesn’t just change who is in the room, it helps more people see themselves as leaders and public servants, too," the assemblymember added.
"Public service goes far beyond elected office. Your experience is valuable. Your voice matters. And there is a place for you at the table," she said.
In the Assembly, Caloza has committed to prioritize reducing the cost of living, building more affordable housing, investing in public education, supporting small businesses, protecting a woman's right to choose, and ensuring California leads the nation and world in fighting the climate crisis.
Caloza represents the 52nd Assembly District, which includes the Los Angeles County communities of Angelino Heights, Atwater Village, City Terrace, Cypress Park, Eagle Rock, East Hollywood, East Los Angeles, Echo Park, El Sereno, Elysian Heights, Glassell Park, Garvanza, Highland Park, Hillside Village, Lincoln Heights, Montecito Heights, Monterey Hills, Mount Washington, Silver Lake, South Glendale, and University Hills.
