Bicol’s First Fully Electric Bus Fleet Launches on Naga–Legazpi Route
LEGAZPI CITY – Bicol’s public transport sector marked a milestone with the launch of a fully electric bus fleet at the Legazpi Grand Terminal.
Solarex, the bus operator, announced on Oct. 26 the rollout of Higer V9 electric buses, which bring charging ports, CCTV and modern comfort to Bicol commuters. The fleet is intended to serve the Naga–Legazpi corridor, with services also described as extending toward Daet. The units are identified as Higer “V9” electric buses from Higer’s New V-Series.
Solarex listed four units — 1001, 1002, 1003 and 1004 — in its launch post. MilestoneLTFRB Bicol Regional Director Joel Rempillo Defeo described the rollout as a “milestone”, adding it gives Bicol commuters their first experience with fully-electric buses and moves the region closer to emissions-free public transport.
The buses are 9 meters long and use a 2x2 seating layout, with reclining seats, added legroom and charging ports beneath the seats.
Safety features include seatbelts, CCTV cameras, fire extinguishers and driver-monitoring tech.
The service is positioned as a cleaner alternative for intercity travel in Bicol, where diesel buses remain common.
Electric buses can reduce tailpipe emissions and noise, though their environmental benefit depends on charging infrastructure and the power mix used to charge the fleet.
Fares and complete trip schedules have not yet been announced. Commuters now wait for practical details on frequency, travel time, booking and charging arrangements. The launch follows Higer’s earlier introduction of its New V-Series buses in the Philippines, indicating that the model line is being marketed locally.
Electric intercity buses could reduce diesel dependence, emissions and noise on Bicol routes.
Commuters, however, will judge the fleet by fares, reliability, charging availability and whether service frequency meets demand.
