British-Filipino Doctors Unite For Inspiring Annual Conference
LONDON—The future of British-Filipino medical leadership took centre stage at University College London Hospital on Saturday, 18 October 2025, as the 2nd Annual Conference of the British Association of Filipino Physicians and Surgeons (BAFPS) brought together clinicians, trainees, and students from across the UK.

More than 29 presentations showcased pioneering research, clinical excellence, and innovative audits, underscoring the growing impact of British-Filipino professionals within the NHS. The event opened with reflections from the BAFPS president, who highlighted the society’s rapid progress since its founding—supported by a Royal College of Surgeons grassroots grant and the Healthcare Leadership Academy.

The conference’s keynote lineup featured established Filipino leaders in UK medicine. Dr Ian Yanson, Forensic Psychiatrist and Clinical Director at Rampton Hospital, delivered an insightful session on mental health and wellbeing for doctors. Dr Robert Buhain, Consultant General Surgeon at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust, emphasised professionalism and integrity in NHS practice. Dr Joy Rivera, Associate Specialist Oncologist at the Royal Surrey Cancer Centre, inspired attendees with her reflections on resilience and excellence in oncology.

With momentum building and community bonds strengthening, BAFPS is set to continue championing British-Filipino medical talent. The organisation proudly looks ahead to future events, further uniting and empowering its growing network of healthcare professionals across the UK.
