Cake Picnic Slated in Los Angeles on June 6
Los Angeles, California-CAKE PICNIC, an event introduced by Cake goddess Elisa Sunga in 2024, is holding another Cake Picnic in Los Angeles on June 6, 2026 at a park in Santa Monica.
In Sunga's CAKE PICNIC official website, she said coinciding the two cake baking sessions will be the launch of her cookbook.
"Los Angeles CAKE PICNIC is back on June 6 to celebrate cake, friends, and the CAKE PICNIC cookbook! After 2 years on the tour and seeing almost 13,000 cakes in real life, I am so excited to share these recipes with you that are inspired from the best bites I’ve had while on tour. In the book, I continue to share my love letter to all things cake and all of its forms," Sunga said.
"I love each and every tour stop in LA because the cakes from LA bakers are some of the best I’ve ever had. So inspired by the abundant California produce, bold and daring in flavors, and absolutely so creative with the decorations and style. No one does cake like those from LA! Also, the vibes are always just so good with you all. It’s always such a good time; we had to run it back!," she added.
Sunga said CAKE PICNIC is a gathering for the love of cake. "It celebrates cake in all of its forms. It brings communities and friends together for the sole purpose of breaking cake and enjoying the following butter and sugar highs. To be surrounded by as many cakes as there are humans is definitely something special, right? It is a moment in time where we come together for something truly sweet. Every attendee brings a whole cake. It is a feast for the ages and you just have to be there."
The CAKE PICNIC on June 6 will have two sessions: 10am-12pm and 2-4pm. Exact location will be sent to the ticket holders.
In a story published by San Gabriel Valley Tribune, it said Sunga, who grew up in Baguio City in the Philippines, started her love for baking cakes when her family moved to Antioch, east Bay region of San Francisco Bay Area, California in 2001.
"But it wasn’t until the pandemic hit that Sunga decided to make up for lost time and dove into the world of baking herself. With YouTube and Christina Tosi’s cookbooks as her guides, Sunga worked her way through new recipes and connected with a community on social media in the process. She also co-founded the Bucket List Bake Club, a virtual community for baking," the SGVT said.
In March 2024, she posted on Instagram an invitation to her first Cake Picnic at Potrero del Sol Park in San Francisco. By the end of the free April 2024 event, 183 people had shown up, each with their own cake and story to share.
Since then, the event series’ popularity has grown significantly, and with that has come the need for things like event permits and ticketing fees.
Sunga said she has been receiving daily requests asking to bring an official Cake Picnic event to new cities around the world.
According to the SGVT story, by the time she brought the event to the Legion of Honor in San Francisco in March 2025 — as part of a thematic celebration of a Wayne Thiebaud exhibition at the museum — the event, with $15 tickets, was reported to have sold out in under a minute.
"It had 1,387 attendees, each of whom brought their own cake to share, per the event’s “no cake, no entry” rule. Then, in October, she brought the picnic back to San Francisco again, this event yielding 2,068 cakes," SGVT said
Sunga also took the show on the road, bringing Cake Picnics to cities like Los Angeles, New York City, San Diego, Minneapolis and London.
In 2026, she added international stops in Mexico and Australia, with a much longer selection of cities to come.
Sunga also put her ideas into a book, “Cake Picnic: Recipes for the Love of Cake and Friends” (Chronicle Books, $30) — in part a guide on how to throw a cake picnic, in part a recipe collection — which came out May 19.
