NUUK, Greenland—Members of the Filipino community in Greenland joined a demonstration on Sunday led by Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen, protesting public statements by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding plans to take over Greenland.

The demonstration began at 1:00 p.m. in central Nuuk and concluded in front of the U.S. Consulate. Participants expressed concern over what they described as increasingly alarming rhetoric surrounding Greenland’s sovereignty.

GP Dupitas, a Filipino-Danish nurse based in Nuuk, said the situation has heightened anxiety among residents.

“After the meetings and statements of Trump in the U.S. media saying he is really going to get Greenland, concerns have worsened and people are becoming more scared about what might happen,” Dupitas said.

“The situation is getting serious. We can feel the tension, especially seeing military personnel walking around the city,” Dupitas added.

In response to the growing uncertainty, members of the Filipino community have begun preparing for possible emergencies by stockpiling at least a week’s supply of food, water, and other essential items. Community members stressed the need for vigilance, noting that relocation options are limited due to Greenland’s geographic isolation.
