RIYADH — A Filipino worker was among two foreign nationals killed in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, according to the kingdom’s Energy Ministry.

Saudi air defences intercepted a drone that was trying to hit a processing facility at Saudi Aramco’s Shaybah oilfield in the Eastern Province.

The deaths came from debris that fell after the interception, not from a direct strike.

A Nepali national also died, and a Pakistani and an Indian were injured.

The debris set a contractor’s vehicle on fire outside the facility perimeter but did not disrupt operations.

The ministry did not say who launched the drone.

The incident comes amid a widening campaign of missile and drone strikes on Saudi targets by Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels, who have hit Saudi airports repeatedly this month.

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) said it had not yet verified the death.

It is coordinating with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh.

The worker’s job or employer were not immediately given.

Earlier this month, seven Filipino workers were injured in attacks in the kingdom, three of them initially reported as critical.

There are approximately 898,014 Filipino workers in Saudi Arabia, according to data from the Saudi Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development reported by the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh, making Saudi Arabia one of the largest single destinations for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).

Summary of Incident: On Wednesday morning (October 21, 2026), Saudi air defenses intercepted an attempted drone strike targeting a processing facility at Saudi Aramco's Shaybah Oil Field in Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province.

Casualties: Falling debris from the intercepted drone killed two foreign nationals — one Filipino and one Nepali — and injured two others (a Pakistani and an Indian). The debris also set fire to a contractor's vehicle outside the facility perimeter, though oilfield operations were unaffected.

Manila's response: The Philippine Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) confirmed that they are actively verifying the details, awaiting formal reports and official information from Saudi authorities and the employer.
