With the total of 351 medal events, about Olympians will compete across 36 core sports. Additionally, up to 700 more athletes will take in the five new sports proposed by the LA28 including baseball/softball, flag football, cricket, and lacrosse.

Officially the Games of the XXXIV Olympiad, the games will feature over 11,200 athletes from around 200 countries.

For the first time in Olympic history, it was learned that there will be more female athletes than male. All team sports will have at least the same number of women's team as men's team. Out of the 351 events, there are 161 women's events, 165 men's events and 25 mixed events.

According to LA28 website, the 2028 Games will mark Los Angeles’ third
time hosting the Olympics – previously hosted in 1984 and 1932 – and first time hosting the Paralympics.

The LA28 Paralympic venue plan is strategically designed for the needs of athletes and the respective sport's field of play requirements, matching the 560 events with accessibility top of mind.

The LA28 has started inviting people from across Los Angeles and beyond to apply and register for its volunteer's program.

According to LA28, volunteers are essential to the Olympic and Paralympic Movement, with more than 30,000 volunteers supporting each Games; in 1984, more than 30,000 volunteers participated and most recently in Paris in 2024, over 35,000 volunteered.

Using 100% existing or temporary venues, it promises a sustainable, athlete-focused, and affordable event with 1 million tickets priced at $28 or less.
