Milan-based Pinoy Designer Unveils Bolero Jeans, European Style Filipiniana At Paris Fashion Show
PARIS, France—Milan-based Filipino designer Lionell Christian Lanuzo has once again unveiled his new neo-ethnic designs, a combination of iconic Filipiniana and modern styles, at a fashion show, the Milestone Global Fashion Tour, on January 10.
“Since I am based here in Europe, I envision Europeans to also try wearing our weaves and butterfly sleeves. I infused our indigenous weaves and our iconic “patadyong sleeve” together with denim, and other modern styles and fabrics to make it more palatable and relateable to the Europeans,” he said.

Among his 12 LCL designs, bolero jeans were one of the favorites. "They were happy because they were simple and elegant, which can be used as an everyday bolero," Lanuzo said in a phone interview.
After a hiatus, Lanuzo missed the feeling of the crowd enjoying his new designs. However, he still felt nervous about whether the clothes would be well-received. “I missed the fashion show, and I have to hone my designing skills," Lanuzo said.

Denim is not common in Europe, but Lanuzo's design of bolero jeans, which includes a flower embroidery, fits in. “It's like normalizing wearing an iconic bolero. Very cultural yet very elegant," Lanuzo said.
Another of his creations is an elegant bolero made of Italian fabric, infusing a European style, with a combination of gold and black colors, suitable for office wear.
A sexy gold gown made of crystal beads was also an eye-catcher. LCL's finale look was a stunning creation made from freshwater pearls sourced from the Philippines and paired with Italian fabric, epitomizing high-fashion Filipiniana.
