Western Union, GCash and Vallarta Supermarkets Offer Zero Transfer

June 06, 20262 min read

CARSON, California --- GCash, the Philippines' largest digital wallet, has entered into a partnership with Western Union (WU), a global leader in money transfer, financial services and cross-border payments, and Vallarta Supermarkets, one of America's premier grocery chains, to make it easier than ever to send money to the Philippines with zero transfer fees.

For the period June 5 to June 30, 2026 in about 14 participating Vallarta Supermarket locations, thousands of Filipinos in Southern California would be able to send Western Union money transfers to their loved ones in the Philippines with zero transaction fees for transfers credited directly to GCash wallets.

The list of participating Vallarta Supermarkets are: Lincoln Avenue, Anaheim; Gladstone St., Azusa; Sherman Way, Canoga Park; Topanga Cyn Blvd. Canoga Park; Carson St. Carson; Cecil Ave., Delano; Main St. Delano; Imperial Highway, Downey; Euclid Avenue, National City; Sepulveda Blvd, North Hills; Reseda Blvd, Northridge; Saviers Rd, Oxnard; Foothill Blvd, Slymar and E. Vineyard Ave, Oxnard.

With Western Union’s new partnership with Vallarta Supermarkets, customers can now manage their financial needs while picking up groceries and essentials, all in one place. Whether you’re sending money to your family or friends or handling everyday payments, you can now take care of it all at your local Vallarta Supermarket.

For his part, Meir Yap, GCash International Head of Growth Marketing, said GCash's partnership with WU and Vallarta is not just offering a more convenient way to transfer money to the Philippines but is also a powerful acquisition lever — and a genuine act of service to Overseas Filipinos who scrutinize every dollar they send.

"Remittances are the lifeline of millions of Filipino families. Every peso lost to fees is a peso that does not reach the table," Yap said.

"Aside from the zero-fee offer, this will also allow Filipino shoppers to send money to their families in the Philippines during the same trip they buy groceries — no separate errand, no separate stop," the GCash official added. "Transfers are likewise credited to the recipient's GCash account instantly, and the recipient can use those funds immediately —for bills, groceries, school fees, or anything else life demands."

Yap also assured that GCash accounts would be fully verified to receive international remittances.

Run by G-Xchange Inc. (GXI), a wholly owned subsidiary of Mynt, the first and only $5-billion unicorn in the Philippines, the GCash app has been used by millions of Filipinos, a large chunk of whom are unbanked, since 2004. At present, over 94 million have used GCash.

Through the GCash app, users can easily purchase prepaid airtime; pay bills via partner billers nationwide; send and receive money anywhere in the Philippines, even to other bank accounts; purchase from over six million partner merchants and social media sellers; and get access to savings, credit, loans, insurance and invest money all at the convenience of their smartphones.
