Filipino ER Doctor In Stable Condition After NYC Subway Attack

MANILA, Philippines—The Filipino emergency room pediatrician who was punched and shoved onto the subway tracks in a seemingly unprovoked attack in Manhattan is now in stable condition, according to a friend. The 44-year-old doctor, a graduate of the University of the Philippines College of Medicine, suffered head and foot injuries but is now thankful to be alive.

The assault occurred last month as the doctor was heading home from his shift. He was waiting for a No. 1 train at the 50th Street station when a suspect suddenly attacked him, reportedly punching him before shoving him onto the tracks. An incoming train was only four minutes away from the station at the time.

Fortunately, several quick-thinking passengers rushed to the scene and were able to pull the doctor back up to the platform before the train arrived. He was taken to the hospital for treatment following the incident.

The victim has declined interviews. The Philippine Consulate General in New York has confirmed they are aware of the incident and have offered assistance to the doctor if needed.

The NYPD has released surveillance video of the suspect, who was seen wearing a backwards cap, white t-shirt, and black shorts, and carrying a backpack. The investigation is ongoing as police continue to search for the individual responsible for the assault.

The incident is the latest in a series of unprovoked subway attacks that have concerned New York residents and commuters.
