Over 3.7 Million Impacted across Philippines as Combined Weather Systems Cause Widespread Damage

MANILA — More than 3.7 million individuals across ten regions in the Philippines have been impacted by the relentless rains brought by the southwest monsoon (habagat) alongside tropical cyclones Luis and Maymay.

According to the latest 13/08/2026 report released by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), a total of 3,733,883 people or over one million families have suffered distress from the combined weather systems. Affected areas span Metro Manila, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, and the Zamboanga Peninsula.

Displacement remains a critical concern across the island nation, with at least 53,570 individuals or roughly 15,017 families currently taking temporary shelter inside 553 active evacuation centres nationwide.

The reported death toll stands at 21 individuals, with authorities confirming 15 of those fatalities occurred in Benguet due to severe landslides triggered by incessant downpours in La Trinidad.

In terms of physical destruction, disaster authorities have recorded damage to more than 1,300 homes. Initial assessments indicate infrastructure losses amounting to roughly £35 million (₱2.6 billion), alongside £4.6 million (₱347 million) in ruined agricultural land and farming assets.
