200 Arrested In France At "Block Everything" Protests
PARIS, France—Nearly 200 were arrested in what is dubbed as "Block Everything" protests across France, particularly in the capital, Paris.
According to the Associated Press, AP, protesters blocked roads, set blazes and were met with volleys of police tear gas on Wednesday, 10 September 2025, seeking to pressure French President Emmanuel Macron by attempting to give his new prime minister a baptism of fire.
Macron was installing Sebastien Lecornu as new prime minister.
Although falling short of its self-declared intention to "Block Everthing," the protests movement that started online over the summer caused widespred hot spots of disruption.
Authorities deployed 80,000 police who broke up barricades and swiftly made arrests.
Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau said that a bus was set on fire in the western city of Rennes and that damage to a powerr line blocked trains on a line in the southwest. He believes the protesters were attempting to create "a climate of insurrection."
The "Block Everything" movement, which has grown virally with no clear identified leadership, has broad array of demands---many targeting contested belt-tightening budget plans that former prime minister Francois Bayrou championed before being ousted after losing confidence vote, and broader complaints about inequality.
