DMW Recalls Labor Attaché Over Flood Control Controversy

MANILA, Philippines—The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has ordered the immediate recall of Labor Attaché Macy Monique Maglanque from her post in Los Angeles, California, to face an investigation in the Philippines regarding her alleged links to an anomalous flood control project.

The recall was ordered by Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac after Maglanque was named in a privilege speech by Senator Panfilo Lacson, chair of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee. Lacson alleged that Maglanque is the president of a company, MBB Global Properties, which has been connected to controversial flood control contracts.

In a statement, Secretary Cacdac said the recall is a procedural step to allow Maglanque to personally respond to the allegations and that no sanctions have been imposed at this time.

"We have issued a recall order for Labor Attaché Maglanque so that she can return home and personally face the investigation," Cacdac said. "This is part of our commitment to integrity and accountability in public service."

Lacson's speech also linked the company to a "family business" between former Public Works Secretary Manuel Bonoan and Candaba, Pampanga Mayor Rene Maglanque, the labor attaché's father.

The DMW has assured that it will cooperate with any official inquiry to ensure accountability and maintain public trust within the agency. The case has raised concerns about corruption in public infrastructure projects and the integrity of government officials, including those serving the Filipino diaspora.
