CERDANYOLA DEL VALLES, Spain—At just 16, Filipino tennis sensation Brice Vincent Baisa is making his mark on the international stage, following an impressive run at the Torneig Sant Martí Men’s Singles Tournament in Spain.

Barely a month into his high-performance training at RV Tennis Academy — under world-class Gand Slam coaches Ignasi Verdonces, Marcus Roy, Bruno Alcala, and Genis Pladevall — Brice displayed remarkable maturity and composure for his age.

In the opening round, he overpowered Carlos Lana Crous in straight sets, 6–4, 6–3, using his sharp backhand and aggressive baseline play to regain control after being tied 4–4. He sealed the first set with two aces and never looked back.

The second round brought his toughest challenge yet against 8th seed Eric Moreno Sandoval. After losing the first set 4–6, Brice stormed back to take the second 6–3, then dominated the deciding tiebreak 10–2 — a breakthrough victory against a seeded player.

Set to face 2nd seed Bruno Barrientos Molina in the quarterfinals, Brice’s run was cut short when he rolled his right ankle during warm-up on the clay surface. Though he tried to push through, the pain forced him to retire after only five points. With guidance from his father and coach Anthony Baisa, and assistant coach Genis Pladevall, Brice immediately began recovery and therapy.

Despite the setback, reaching the quarterfinals in a men’s open tournament marked a career milestone — his first at this level — and underscored his potential as one of the Philippines’ most promising young athletes.

“Brice’s progress in just one month shows how far determination can take a young player,” one of his coaches shared. “He has the mindset, the work ethic, and the heart to go far.”

From Palawan to Barcelona, Brice’s journey is a story of discipline, courage, and quiet perseverance. As he recovers from his ankle injury, supporters from the Philippines and abroad are sending one clear message — get well soon, BVB.

Indeed, this may just be the beginning of Brice Vincent Baisa’s rise toward becoming the next great tennis star from the Philippines.
