Sporty Fest in Riyadh gears to unifying OFWs

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — More than just a sports competition, Sporty Fest aims to unite Filipinos in Saudi Arabia through an organized platform for sports, engagement, and the strengthening of social connections.

This year's Sporty Fest was participated in by more than 1,000 individuals coming from various sports and fitness enthusiast groups, including Basketball, Volleyball, Taekwondo, Badminton, Zumba, Kickboxing, Pickleball, and even extending to Remote Control (RC) Car enthusiasts, highlighting the diversity and inclusivity of the gathering.

The initiative brings together athletes, families, professionals, organizations, entrepreneurs, volunteers, and overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). Through these activities, participants are given the opportunity to meet, interact, and build stronger relationships within the community.

According to the program organizers, sports serves as a powerful tool for fostering unity. Despite differences in profession and background, participants are brought together by shared values such as discipline, teamwork, perseverance, and sacrifice.

Beyond competition, Sporty Fest also highlights the importance of providing OFWs with opportunities to rediscover and showcase their talents and interests, which are often set aside due to work responsibilities.

In the context of living abroad, the program seeks to serve as a “home away from home” for Filipinos in Saudi Arabia, offering social activities that strengthen their sense of identity and belonging as a community.

By the end of the event, success is not measured solely by trophies or medals, but also by the friendships formed, opportunities created, and the strengthened unity of the community.

Organizers emphasize that while sports serves as the reason for gathering, it is unity and a shared purpose as Filipinos abroad that truly connect all participants.
