Two Charged Following Suspected Hate Crime Attack on Filipino Seafarers in Bristol
BRISTOL, England — Police in the United Kingdom have charged two individuals in connection with an assault in Bristol that left three Filipino ship workers injured, including one who remains in hospital in critical condition.
According to a report released by Avon and Somerset Police, emergency services were called to Richmond Terrace in Avonmouth at approximately 8:30 pm on Friday, 31 July 2026, following reports that three men had been injured.
Two of the victims required hospital treatment. One worker has since been discharged, while the second remains in critical condition.
Following an investigation, authorities charged and remanded two suspects to appear at Bristol Magistrates' Court on Monday, 3 August 2026:
Kurtis Ranklin (45, of Southmead): Charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, in connection with the injuries sustained by the seafarer currently in critical condition.
A 17-year-old male: Charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, regarding the seafarer who was treated and discharged. The minor cannot be identified under UK law.
Police confirmed that two other individuals arrested in connection with the incident have been released on conditional bail whilst enquiries continue.
Based on early information provided to investigating officers, Avon and Somerset Police have officially recorded the incident as a hate crime.
The victims are Filipino nationals and ship workers who had recently docked at Avonmouth. Anti-racism advocacy organisation Stand Against Racism & Inequality (SARI) is actively providing support to the injured seafarers.
